Roger Lee/Journal Scene Fort Dorchester senior Erika Cobb has signed to play for the North Greenville University Women’s Basketball Team.

The leading scorer for the Lady Patriots’ basketball team will take her talents to North Greenville University in the fall.

Fort Dorchester senior Erika Cobb was joined by family members, friends, teammates and coaches Monday as she celebrated signing with the North Greenville University Women’s Basketball Team.

“Overall I just like the University,” Cobb said. “I went to visit for a workout and I like the campus and it felt like I was at home. They needed a guard and I think I will be a good fit. I got to play with them and against them and they have some good players. I’m excited.”

NGU is a Conference Carolinas university.

Cobb is a three-year varsity letterman for Fort Dorchester who was named all-region as a junior and senior. The 5-9 wing has solid ball-handling skills and averaged 13 points, five rebounds and three assists per game during her career. She was named the Lady Patriots’ MVP as a senior.

Fort Dorchester coach Randall Slawson says Crusaders’ assistant coach Ross Jolly has high expectations for Cobb.

“When I talked to coach Jolly he told me they like Erika’s athleticism and shooting skills,” Slawson said.

“They needed a shooting guard so I think her transition to college will go well. Her heart is as big as all outdoors and she has a great work ethic. She is a good kid and deserves this opportunity.”

Cobb says she plans to major in accounting.
