Firefighter Douglas Miles Jr. of Summerville grew up in the Lowcountry. He is a graduate of Ferndale Baptist High School in North Charleston and a Marine Corps reservist.
He began his career as a mechanic but became a firefighter “to do more to help the community.”
The 42-year-old is humble and reticent in talking about himself.
He says his best experiences are with Summerville Fire Department. “It’s a great place to work.”
His professional goal, he says, is to become third driver/engineer. “I need to start working toward that.”
He and his wife, Tracy, have a son, Mack, who is 16. They also have a dog, Simone, 6, a “mutt.”
Miles enjoys hunting, especially deer. He loves taking his son hunting. His son also helps him at his hunt club.
He works part time for Hi Tek Floor Supply in Charleston.
His life goal, he says, is to travel.
But, he says, he “probably won’t retire” but keep on keeping busy for as long as he can.
