The Lady Green Wave softball team earned an 8-0 win at South Florence Saturday to earn home-field advantage in the District VI championship series of the Class AAAA playoffs.
“That puts us in the driver’s seat,” Summerville coach Heather Tucker said.
On Wednesday, Summerville will host the winner of Monday’s South Florence/Spring Valley game.
The Wave needs only one win to advance while the winner of Monday’s game has to beat Summerville twice Wednesday in order to advance.
Sophomore Summer Jenkins went the distance in the circle for Summerville and picked up her second pitching win of the playoffs. She only allowed four hits.
Taylor Powell had a solo homerun for Summerville, which also received key hits from Jenkins and Dani Halajcsik.
Summerville improved its record to 23-4 while South Florence dropped to 22-5.
Summerville, the defending Lower State champion, opened the playoffs with a 12-2 victory over Spring Valley on Thursday.
Jenkins also got the start and win in that game.
Hannah Horton was 3 for 4 at the plate while Taylor Powell and Anna Gluhosky both went 3 for 5.
Taylor Knight was 2 for 3 with a homerun and Sarah Windham was 2 for 3 with an RBI.
