The Summerville and Ashley Ridge boys’ soccer teams split a pair of games last week.

“I think it came down to home-field advantage,” Ashley Ridge coach Nate Harris said. “They are used to their field and we are used to ours and I think it showed. We are more comfortable at home and over there the tighter confines made us work harder and it leant very well to their game.

“But Coach Rasner had done an excellent job with them and I’m proud of him as a friend because he has done such a good job,” Harris said.

On Thursday, the Green Wave handed the Swamp Foxes a 4-1 loss at the SHS track.

Ryan West scored two goals for Summerville while David Kennedy and Edward DeLonge added a goal each. Summerville keeper Davis Wiggins was strong in goal, only allowing the one Ashley Ridge score.

The teams entered the half scoreless but then Summerville found its grove to take a one-game lead over Ashley Ridge in the Region 8-AAAA standings.

However, the next evening the teams met at Ashley Ridge and the Swamp Foxes earned a 2-0 win to knot up the standings once again.

Due to a Fort Dorchester loss Friday, now Ashley Ridge, Bluffton, Fort Dorchester and Summerville all entered this week with identical 6-3 records in the region with only one region game remaining for each team.

In the 23 minute, Michael Sauter lobbed a kick from the left corner of the field toward the goal. It landed and took a high bounce out of the reach of Wiggins and then took an awkward-looking roll sideways and into the goal.

The second goal came in the 41st minute. Tristen Caples made a pass to Britt Soyebo and he darted to the goal to get a favorable angle on the keeper. His following shot was on the mark for the 2-0 Swamp Fox lead.

Stockton Blanchard had the shutout in goal for Ashley Ridge.

Ashley Ridge entered this week with a 15-5-1 overall record and played Colleton County after press time Tuesday.

Summerville entered the week with a 10-10-2 overall record and closed its schedule out with a game against Fort Dorchester Tuesday after press time.

The Boys Class AAAA playoffs begin next Tuesday.
