AR, FD girls finish strong

Roger Lee/Journal Scene Ashley Ridge captain Bo Erickson and Fort Dorchester captain Caitlyn Reilly both helped their team become a contender for the region crown this season.

Ashley Ridge and Fort Dorchester notched wins last week to become the frontrunners to earn the Region 8-AAAA girls’ soccer championship.

The Lady Patriots defeated Colleton County 3-1 and Bluffton 3-2 to improve to 10-5-0 with a 7-2 mark in Region 8-AAAA. The Lady Swamp Foxes defeated Beaufort 1-0 and Summerville 1-0 to improve to 9-4-0 with a 7-2 mark in the region. The only other team that could claim a piece of the region crown is Bluffton (10-7-1, 6-3).

Fort Dorchester closed its region schedule Tuesday after press time with a game against Summerville. Ashley Ridge closed its region schedule Tuesday after press time with a game against Colleton County. The girls Class AAAA playoffs begin May 12.
