The Greater Summerville/Dorchester County Chamber of Commerce and the Summerville Visitor Center are celebrating National Travel and Tourism Week through Friday.
Throughout the week, the Visitor Center will distribute goodies, drinks, coupons and other promotional products donated from local merchants to, not only visitors, but also locals that stop in the center.
Some of the items that will be given away will be sweet tea cupcakes from Hummingbird Bakery, coffee from Coastal Coffee Roasters, cinnamon rolls from the Holiday Inn Express and Suites - North Charleston, bottled water from Drayton Hall and more.
“Every day sweet tea will be served in the center to promote Summerville’s trademark as the Birthplace of Sweet Tea,” said Director of Tourism for the Chamber Tina Zimmerman. “This is a great opportunity to market Summerville and showcase all the great things our town has to offer.”
Make sure to stop by to receive a treat anytime this week, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Each May, National Travel and Tourism Week is celebrated by the industry and communities across the nation to help promote travel to and within the United States, a tradition first celebrated in 1984, established by a Congressional joint resolution passed in 1983.
The U.S. travel community has collectively marked the event in a number of creative ways, from staging local rallies and conducting media outreach to securing proclamations and resolutions from local legislative bodies.
Each year, localized events are presented in cities, states and travel businesses nationwide to champion the power of travel.
The Greater Summerville/Dorchester County Chamber of Commerce was established in 1911 and has been an integral part of the growth of Summerville and the surrounding areas.
Our mission is to protect and promote the quality of life in the community, with emphasis on improving economic vitality and providing a favorable business climate.
