Mason Hazel recently signed to be a part of the Anderson University running family, literally.
After contemplating other options from around the state, Queens in Charlotte and Marshall University, Hazel decided to join his sister, Sydney, who also runs for Anderson on the track and cross country teams.
“I like the smaller environment,” the Pinewood Prep senior said. “I have been very happy at Pinewood and thought this was an easy transition. Coach Greer said I could have a major role coming in as a freshman. The team is close and has a family feel to it. My sister is very happy there and is still motivated to run.”
The school offers a great theatre program, which also factor into his decision. However, Mason plans to major in History.
The distance runner had a stellar senior season at Pinewood. He leaves his mark at the school, having the Panther record in the 5k (16:11), 3200 (9:38), 1600 (4:25) and 800 (2:01.28). He is also a part of the SCISA State Championship 4 x 800 relay. He has received all-state and all-region honors in track and cross country and was named to the All-Low Country Cross Country Team.
