Bruce Legare Brunson

Bruce Legare Brunson of Summerville, loving husband of Valeria Hauptman Brunson, died Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Summerville Medical Center. He was 63.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at Bethany United Methodist Church, Spell Chapel. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Living Christmas Story at Bethany UMC, 118 W. 3rd South St, Summerville, SC 29483, or American Cancer Society, 269 Calhoun St., Charleston, SC 29401.

Bruce was born Dec. 25, 1950 in Sumter. He served in the U.S. Army and was an avid gardener. He also enjoyed fishing with his friends. He retired from Hardee’s as a manager, and was currently working at Piggly Wiggly as a produce manager.

In addition to his wife, survivors include one son, Heath (Jenny) Brunson, of Summerville; one daughter, Angie (Sutton) Phelps, also of Summerville; two brothers, Leonard Brunson of Sumter, and Tommy Brunson of Lancaster; and four grandchildren, Kellen Phelps, Brooke Brunson, Tyler Steele, all of Summerville, and Whitley Steele of Cape May, NJ. Bruce was predeceased by his father, Legare McCoy Brunson, and his mother, Harriet Elizabeth “Lib” Evans.

Harry Charles Prentiss

Harry Charles Prentiss, known to his friends as “Carolina Shortie,” was born in Shaftsbury, Vermont on Nov. 19, 1926 and passed away at Trident Hospital on May 12, 2014 surrounded by family and friends. He was a longtime resident of Summerville.

Harry was a Veteran serving in the Navy in World War II and the recipient of several medals. He loved God and his family, and was extremely proud of his service to our great country. He, often accompanied by his wife, traveled the country as a long haul truck driver after his military service.

He was predeceased by his loving wife of over 50 years, Virginia Ramsey Prentiss and son, Harry Charles Prentiss, Jr. Survivors include grandchildren, Frank Prentiss and Melinda Anderson, and three great-grandchildren; caregiver and friend Nancy Sampson; in laws Wiley and Susan Johnson, Anita Alexander, Alice Hess, Edith Livengood, Gwen Ramsey; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog “Whitie.”

Friends called at Parks Funeral Home this Thursday, May 15, 2014 from 6:30 – 8:30 pm. Graveside funeral services will be held Friday morning, May 16, 2014 at Summerville Cemetery at 11 am.
