The 4-year-old boy who shot himself in a W. Richardson Ave. home last week died May 16, according to reports from the Dorchester County Coronerís Office.

The boy was identified as North Charleston resident Jeffery Scott of Otranto Road, according to reports. He died at the hospital Friday, May 16, after being treated for the gunshot wound to the head.

Coroner Chris Nisbet ruled the death an accident.

Margaret G. Wilson, 75, called law enforcement to 811 W. Richardson Ave. on May 12 after she heard a lone gunshot and discovered her grandson bleeding from the head in the front lawn.

She was inside unloading groceries at the time. No one else was home.

According to reports, Wilson told the 911 dispatcher she did not know where he got the gun.

Summerville Police Department is investigating the ownership of the gun, a .25-caliber Taurus pistol. No criminal charges have been filed.
