The Pinewood Sporting Clays team had its state championship event at Rocky Creek in Richburg on May 10.
The team placed fourth in one category and seventh in another. Clae Wyckoff , Sonny Kay and Chase Abraham all placed third in their division in the state competition.
Abraham had Pinewood’s high overall score of 90/100 on the senior course.
Ethan Clark had HOA on the JV course with an 86/100 and Trae Knight had HOA on the intermediate course with a 77/100.
Chase, Hays Sanders, Ethan, Gabe Stokes and Trae all had personal bests.
“We took the gold in our post event tailgate as we waited for the results to be announced,” Pinewood coach Glen Haynes said, “We will miss our seniors - Frank Haynes, Clayton Are and Bobby Thomas - but have a great group of sophomores who should be in the hunt for the championship for years to come. We also have a group of young members gaining valuable experience waiting their turn.”
The Panthers had 13 members on the team this year, almost double the previous high. Pinewood also placed second earlier in the year in the in SCISA Skeet and Trap Championship.
“I am really proud of how well we competed throughout the year,” Haynes said. “Our sportsmanship and Pinewood pride was evident. Our best years are ahead of us.”
