Lt. Gov candidate visits Summerville

Provided Mike Campbell, candidate for lieutenant governor, visits Coastal Coffee Roasters on Tuesday as part of his campaign.

Mike Campbell, candidate for lieutenant governor, visited Summerville the morning of May 20.

He stopped at Coastal Coffee Roasters and the Summerville Journal Scene office while in town.

Campbell, son of the late former Gov. Carroll Campbell, first ran for lieutenant governor in 2006 and said he “always intended on doing it again.”

The candidate said he offers a unique perspective toward the position, as he has experience as a small business owner, is the son of the late governor, and served with the S.C. Department of National Resources under Gov. Mark Sanford.

“I’m not a career politician but I’m not a government novice either,” he said.

Campbell said if elected he is most looking forward to his role overseeing the State Office on Aging, where he plans to create programs at the state level and advocate for Alzheimer’s patients and their caregivers.

2008 presidential candidate Mike Huckabee recently endorsed Campbell, who is one of four candidates filed for the seat.

Campbell’s visit to Summerville was part of his 46-county, 7-day tour of the state.
