DD2 says goodbye to 40 retirees

Monica Kreber/Journal Scene Retirees receive a standing ovation from friends and family during DD2’s retiree recognition ceremony.

A collective 884 years of service and legacies is being left behind as Dorchester District Two bids farewell to 40 retiring employees.

On May 22 DD2 held a ceremony at Summerville High School recognizing the retirees, mentioning their notable achievements and contributions to the district and saying goodbye – although Superintendent Joe Pye is hopeful this is not the final goodbye to these former employees.

“It bothers me to say goodbye this time of the year,” he said. “But hopefully it’s not goodbye.”

Retirees were individually invited to cross the stage in Summerville High’s auditorium, collect a gift from the district and hear a brief description of what they brought to DD2 and what their plans are for retirement.

Some say they will be painting and writing, some plan to volunteer, some will be spending time with their children and grandchildren, but all will be embracing this new chapter in their lives.

“It’s not a sad time it’s a glad time – you’ve earned it,” Pye told retirees. “Many milestones have passed and now it’s your turn.”
