Generals baseball

The Lowcountry Generals Summerville-based team is looking to add two to three quality players to its existing roster for the fall season of USSSA baseball, which begins in August. The team will compete in 11u this fall, so players must not turn 12 before May 1, 2015. Prior travel ball experience is not mandatory, but can be helpful. Players will be considered, with an emphasis on pitching, versatility, attitude and character. Interested parties are encouraged to contact Wade Hedges at hedgeswg@gmail.com to arrange a tryout.

Heart Pumping Fitness

The Town of Summerville Parks and Recreation Department is offering Cardio Tennis at the Doty Park tennis courts. The activity provides a full-body workout and involves hitting a lot of balls, burning a lot of calories and getting energized to cool upbeat music. No tennis experience is necessary. Sessions are held Wednesdays from 9-10 a.m. and Thursdays from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Cost is $12 per player (checks only). Confirmation for classes is required. Wrestling camp

The Summerville Wrestling Camp is scheduled from 4-7 p.m. June 24-26. This camp will be for ages 4 through rising high school seniors. The featured clinician this year is Tony Davis, a former NCAA National Champion and Runner up at Northern Iowa, founder of the Shoot Fast/Shoot Fast Academy, and Assistant Wrestling Coach at N.C. State University. Cost is $75 per camper and $50 for an additional kid from the same family. The camp will feature techniques from the neutral position, top and bottom wrestling as well as defense. AR Volleyball camps

Ashley Ridge High School will host a volleyball camp this summer for athletes in grades 7-12 as well as a junior volleyball camp for athletes in grades 3-6. Volleyball camp is scheduled from 9 a.m. until noon July 21-24 in the ARHS gym. Junior Volleyball camp is scheduled from 9 a.m. until noon July 7-10. Participants at the camps will learn about serving, passing, bumping, setting, spiking and game rules. Advanced players will also participate in round robin play and scrimmages. Grappler Golf Classic

The first annual Ashley Ridge Grappler Golf Classic, sponsored by the Ashley Ridge Tech Fall Club, is scheduled for June 7 at Summerville Country Club. The tournament will feature a putting contest at noon and a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Cost is $75 per person and includes food, drink and golf. Sponsorships are available. Bethany Sports Camps

Bethany United Methodist Church is offering several sports camps this summer. To register or find information on the camps visit www.BethanyGym.com or call Bethany’s Recreation Ministries at 873-7261. Camps will run from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 9 a.m. until noon on Fridays with the option to stay extended hours for water activities and movies. Cost is $135 per camp. Camps include Girls’ Only Basketball Camp (age 9-16) June 23-27, Coed Basketball Camp (age 6-13) July 7-11, Coed Soccer Camp (age 6-12) July 14-18 and Girls’ Volleyball Camp (grades 4-12) July 21-25.

All-American hoops camp

The All American Basketball Skills Camp for boys and girls in grades 3 through 9 is scheduled for June 9-12. Camp will be held at Summerville High School from 9 a.m. until noon each day. Registration costs for the week is $75 per camper with a half-price discount available for families with more than one child and includes a camp T-Shirt, academic/athletic skills notebook, individual position skill development, instructions in individual and group fundamentals, and daily “Hot Spot” and free-throw contests. Single-day registration is also available for $20 per day. The camp will be staffed by the SHS Boys’ coaching staff and current Green Wave players. SHS Baseball Camp

The Summerville High School Baseball program will host two Fundamentals and Fun Baseball Camps this summer for youth age 6-14. Banks Faulkner, the Summerville High staff, and Summerville players will serve as instructors. Sessions will be June 9-12 and June 16-19 from 8:30 a.m. until noon at the Parks Field Complex. The cost of camp is $75 per camper and $50 for a second family member. Campers will be instructed in the fundamentals including throwing, hitting, defensive play and base running and receive tips on teamwork, sportsmanship and character. AR Soccer Camp

Ashley Ridge High School will host a Soccer Camp for players age 3-12 this summer. Camp will run from 9-11 a.m. or from 9 a.m. until noon depending on age. Camps are scheduled for June 16-20 and July 7-11. Camp tuition is $60 per session. Each camper will receive a camp t-shirt. AR Head Girl’s Soccer Coach Mark Weaver and SHS Head Boy’s Soccer Coach Jason Rasner will head a staff that is committed to helping each camper improve their skills and performance levels. An Elite Camp will also be offered for players ready to be challenged with a more difficult regiment of activities that will enhance their dribbling, passing and shooting skills. Ashborough summer tennis

Ashborough East Tennis Pro Ben Hough and his staff will host summer tennis camps June 23 - 26 and July 7 - 10 for ages 7 – 13. Camp will run from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Tennis activities will include instruction, drills, games and match play. Players will be grouped according to age and skill level. Music, craft and swimming will be incorporated. Space is limited to first 15 applicants. Cost is $120 per session. A $60 deposit is required at the time of registration. Anglers club

The Summerville Saltwater Anglers fishing club meets every second Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at Summerville Country Club. The group is the only family-focused fishing club in the Charleston area. The club was founded by Ralph Phillips in 2011. New members are welcome. More information on the family-oriented club visit can be found at www.summervillesaltwateranglers.com.

Players needed

Summer tennis camps

The Town of Summerville Tennis Program has scheduled Summer Camps for those age 6 and up from 8-11:30 a.m. June 16-19, June 23-26, July 7-10, July 14-17, July 21-24 and Aug. 4-7. The fee for each session is $115 and includes snacks and a Thursday Pizza Party. A $50 deposit is required at the time of registration.
