Roger Lee/Journal Scene Fort Dorchester’s Spencer Wilder will cap his high school career by playing in the North-South Classic soccer match.

Ashley Ridge goalkeeper Stockton Blanchard and Fort Dorchester midfielder Spencer Wilder will suit up for the South later this month.

They are two of only eight Lowcountry athletes selected to play for the South Boys’ All-star Team during the South Carolina High School Soccer Coaches Association North-South Classic. The annual all-star soccer match, for seniors only, is scheduled for June 28 at Blackbaud Stadium.

Blanchard, who has also been named to the All-state Team, is a four-year starter in goal for the Swamp Foxes.

The keeper had 16 shutouts this spring and finished the season with a .91 Goals Against Average. He has signed to play for the Radford University soccer program next school year.

“Stockton is the kind of player any coach dreams of; a driven and self-motivated athlete,” Ashley Ridge coach Nate Harris said. “He was my captain for two years – and as captain he was in many ways an extension of the coaching staff – leading by example and holding his teammates to a very high standard. There were multiple games in his career where he simply refused to let us lose. He will be missed as a player, but we look forward to having him as an alumni presence for years to come.”

Wilder is a four-year letterman and three-year starter for the Patriot soccer team. He spent most of that time as a center-mid but also saw a lot of time as a forward his final two seasons at the Fort.

“Spencer was our most experienced player,” Fort Dorchester coach Chris Jones said. “He is the guy everyone looked up to. His teammates voted him, pretty much unanimously, to be team captain. He is very intelligent and having someone who understands the game like he does gave us a tactical advantage. He was an integral part of our team. He basically pulled everything together so that the things we wanted to do worked.”

Wilder plans to attend College of Charleston and is considering attempting to walk on the boys’ soccer team.

Other Lowcountry representatives on the South All-star Team are Christopher Corontzes and Jackson Karolczyk of Wando, Logan Devereux of Hanahan, Alex Lanning of Academic Magnet, Luis Lemus of Stall and Juan Villa-Bailey of West Ashley.
