A single vehicle accident Friday night left one man dead and sent another to the hospital with severe injuries.

The accident occurred at about 11:20 p.m. Friday on SC 61 near Middleton Plantation, not too far from the Dorchester/Charleston County line, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.

Sgt. Bob Beres said the vehicle, a 2007 BMW convertible, was traveling north on SC 61 toward Summerville when the vehicle ran off the right side of the road and struck several trees, ejecting the driver and his passenger.

Neither of the occupants was wearing a seatbelt, Beres said.

Grant Alexander Opoulos, 19, of Summerville died at the scene of massive head trauma, according to Dorchester County Coroner Chris Nisbet.

Jeremiah Clark-Loyless, 18, of Summerville was transported to MUSCís Medical University Hospital, Beres said.

It is still unclear as to who was driving the vehicle, Beres said.

SCHPís Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation team (MAIT) is investigating the accident, Beres said.
