Expungement clinic in Summerville

  • Tuesday, June 10, 2014

On June 18, Trident United Way is hosting a clinic to teach people how to expunge minor criminal charges from their records.

An expungement clinic was held in Moncks Corner last month with a large turnout.

“It was jam-packed,” said Barry Waldman, vice president of communications and marketing of Trident United Way.

Like the Moncks Corner clinic, presentations will be held by the South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services and the First Circuit Solicitors office.

The clinic will be held from 3-5 p.m. at the Summerville Prosperity Center, 222 Old Trolley Road, with limited space expected.

The presenters will talk to the attendees about how the process of expungement works, the types of charges that can be dropped and the overall cost.

Waldman said people with minor criminal records benefit from expungement because they can have difficulty finding jobs or apartments due to their records.

“Having witnessed it, it was interesting how many people can take advantage of this process and benefit from it. It’s a real service that is providing for the community,” said Waldman.
