One of the leaders for the Lady Green Wave basketball team will take her talents to Erskine College.
Summerville High School graduate Zuri Green was joined by teammates, coaches, family and friends Monday at the Green Wave gym to celebrate her signing with the Erskine Women’s Basketball Team.
“I like that Erskine is small and everyone there seems to be together,” Green said. “I’ve been to a lot of campuses to visit and play with teams but something just seemed to click with Erskine. Everything kind of came together. Everyone on the Summerville team had a good bond so I’m looking forward to developing a bond with my new teammates.”
Green was a three-year letterman for the Lady Green Wave and a two-year starter. She was also a standout on the Lady Green Wave volleyball team. She received multiple all-region honors for both sports.
Last season, Green averaged 12 points, seven rebounds and 1.5 steals per game.
“Her senior year she was among the leaders in both points and rebounds not only for our team but for the Lowcountry,” Summerville coach Matt Legare said. “She is a very solid basketball player who was basically our rock for our last two region runs. We will miss her leadership as well as her points and rebounds. She is a great kid to coach.”
Erskine will likely use Green as both a small forward and shooting guard.
“She has good size and athleticism,” Legare said. “She can shoot the 3 and she is a good student. She is very coachable so she will continue to improve and add some elements to her game at the college level. I think Erskine is a good fit for her.”
Green hasn’t decided on a major yet, but is leaning toward biology or another medical-related field.
