Run-off election is Tuesday

  • Friday, June 20, 2014

Dorchester County voters have another chance to decide who will be on the ballot in November in three races.

Mike Campbell, son of former S.C. Governor Carroll Campbell, and former State Attorney General Henry McMaster face off for the Republican nomination for Lt. Governor. Former education officials Sally Atwater and Molly Spearman will vie for the Republican ballot for State Superintendent of Education.

Voters who cast ballots in the Democratic primary will choose between Sheila Gallagher, former teacher and former Florence County Democratic Party Director and Tom Thompson, a former high school administrator and university professor, for education superintendent.

All polls and precincts are in the same locations as they were during the June 10 election, said Joshua Dickard, Executive Director of the Dorchester County Board of Elections and Voter Registration. Polls will open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.

“We realize that voter turnouts are typically low for runoff elections,” Dickard said. “Still, we encourage everyone to exercise their right to vote.”

Voters cannot “cross-over” in this election; people who voted in the June 10 Democratic primary are eligible to vote only in the Democratic runoff and people who voted in the Republican primary are eligbile only to vote in the Republican runoff.

Anyone who didn’t vote can vote in either runoff.

Voters who wish to vote absentee will not be able to do so in the election offices in Summerville; however, voters may go to the Board of Elections and Voter Registration, 201 Johnston Street, St. George, to cast an absentee ballot or they can request a mailed ballot, he said.
