The 2014 Byron Maxwell Air It Out Passing Tournament featured an all-Berkeley County championship.

On Saturday, 18 teams competed in Fort Dorchester’s summer 7-on-7 Air it Out Tournament sponsored by Maxwell, a Fort Dorchester graduate and member of the defending Super Bowl Champion Seattle Seahawks.

After hours of head-to-head action, Hanahan defeated Berkeley 33-19 in the Division 1 final to take top prize for the tournament.

Georgetown won the Division 2 trophy for the event.

Fort Dorchester and Ashley Ridge both advanced to the semi-finals for Division 1. The Patriots fell to Hanahan in their semi-final while Ashley Ridge fell to Berkeley.

This is the fifth summer the Patriots have hosted the tournament, which serves as a fundraiser for the FDHS football program. Teams were awarded points for each touchdown pass, interception and defensive stop they made during individual passing games. Midway through the tournament, teams were divided into two, single-elimination divisions according to record.

Other schools that participated included Bishop England, Stratford, James Island, West Ashley, Beaufort, Bluffton, Georgetown, Wando, Palmetto Christian, Porter-Gaud, Northwood Academy and First Baptist.
