The Summerville Parks Field American Machine Pitch All-stars overcame a 7-run deficit Saturday to claim the Dixie Youth District 7 Championship.

The Moncks Corner All-stars took an 11-4 lead in the top of the fourth inning but Summerville rallied to earn a 14-11 victory during the District 7 AA Machine Pitch Tournament finals held at Wescott Park. With the victory, Summerville advances to the Dixie Youth South Carolina AA Machine Pitch Tournament that begins June 27 in Florence.

“These kids are 8 so every game is an adventure but they all want to do things the right way and they put a lot into it,” Summerville Manager John Hayes said. “We are happy about having the chance to represent our community at the state tournament.”

The district title game was tied at 1-all entering the third inning but Moncks Corner scored seven runs in the top of the frame. Summerville cut the lead in half in the bottom of the frame but that left only two innings for the team to make up the rest. Moncks Corner’s Joey Shuler and Summerville’s Matthew Fowler both had an RBI double in the inning.

Three of the first four Moncks Corner batters had a hit in the top of the fourth and the team added three more runs for the 11-4 lead.

Summerville stole home twice in the bottom of the frame for an 11-6 score and kept Moncks Corner off the scoreboard in the top of the fifth. Summerville then scored eight runs in the bottom of the frame to take a three-run lead into the final at bat.

Everyone on the Summerville roster reached base at least once during the game. Drew Hayes, Dillon Moody, Joe Knight and Jace Stancil all reached base three times.

Moncks Corner also had multiple players reach base three times.
