Provided Peter Andrew Villa

The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday it’s solved the case into the murder of Drew Shumway, whose body was found in a storage shed in the Ridgeville area in April.

The sheriff’s office named Peter Andrew Villa as Shumway’s killer.

Villa won’t go to trial, however; he shot and killed himself after a police chase a few weeks after the murder, according to the sheriff’s office.

Shumway had been reported missing from Berkeley County on April 6.

His body was found April 11. The sheriff’s office said its investigation uncovered a witness who said Villa admitted to shooting and killing Shumway to rob him.

Cell phone records showed the two had been in contact for several days before Shumway disappeared, the sheriff’s office said, and that Villa had travelled to the Ridgeville area on the day of Shumway’s death.

On April 24, however, Villa was involved in a car chase with North Charleston Police and shot himself, the sheriff’s office said.

Forensic analysis showed the gun Villa used to kill himself was the same one used to kill Shumway, the sheriff’s office said.
