Eleven DD2 schools are expected to get better security entrances this summer.
Rick Rogers, director of facilities for the district, gave board members an update on the ongoing security entrance project.
The schools receiving a security entrance upgrade this summer include Dubose Middle, Gregg Middle, Fort Dorchester Elementary, Spann Elementary, Knightsville Elementary, Oakbrook Elementary, Rollings Middle School of the Arts, Summerville Elementary, Summerville High, Beech Hill Elementary and Windsor Hill Arts Infused Elementary.
“Summerville High’s has been completed and the rest are at various stages,” Rogers said. “Demolition is complete at any school that requires demolition.”
DD2’s new Facility location for the district is complete – by mid-July Rogers hopes for employees to be settled in. The new location is 164 McQueen Boulevard in Summerville.
Board members would like for parents to know that these new security entrances might be met with different security measures at some of the schools. Parents will get a chance to check out the new security entrances during their schools’ registration days later this summer.
The projects being tackled this summer include:
Dubose Middle – add security walls/relocate main entrance
Gregg Middle – entrance/reception renovation
Fort Dorchester Elementary – Add glass wall to left of lobby
Spann Elementary – add storefront w/ doors at front office
Knightsville – front office lobby/reception alteration
Newington Elementary – front office lobby/reception alteration
