James E. Williams, Sr.

James Edward Williams, Sr., MSGT USAF, (Ret.), Carrier, US Postal Service, (Ret.) 83, of Summerville, husband of Dona (Capps) Williams, passed away on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at Summerville Medical Center.

Funeral services were held on Monday, June 23, 2014 at 11 o’clock a.m. at Bethany United Methodist Church, Spell Chapel. Funeral services were officiated by The Rev. James Alewine and The Rev. Dr. Mark Fentress. Burial followed at Dorchester Memory Gardens, Summerville.

Jim was born on September 25, 1930 in Stapelton, GA son of the late Charles Emmett Williams and Ruby (Hannah) Williams. He graduated from Richmond Academy in Augusta, GA and attended University of Maryland – Overseas Branch. He entered the United States Air Force in November 1948 serving his country for 22 years. Jim and his family moved to Summerville in 1970 and he worked for the US Postal Service as a letter carrier for 18 years. He enjoyed gardening, golfing, collecting coins and raising Arabian horses. Jim was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Summerville American Legion Post 21, Disabled American Vets of SC, Chapter 17 and an avid Clemson fan.

Surviving in addition to his wife Dona are: three children: James Edward Williams, Jr. (Pam) of Summerville, SC, Marsha W. Harris (Danny) of Concord, NC and Glenn Emmett Williams (Kim) of Columbia, SC; two grandsons: Matthew Edward Williams of Charleston, SC and Ethan Glenn Williams of Myrtle Beach and Columbia, SC; one sister: Jacqueline W. Cameron of Evans, GA; brother in law: Dr. J. Louis Capps (Yetive) of Raleigh, NC. He was predeceased by two brothers, Charles E. Williams, Jr., and William L. Williams and three sisters, Edris W. Chase, Lois W. Murphy and Patricia Williams.
