Last fall Tabarious Hartzog’s job was to pick off the Patriots’ quarterback, but this year he will be rooting him.
Hartzog is a rising junior at Fort Dorchester who transferred from Cane Bay after last football season. In the last meeting between those teams FD got the win, but Hartzog made an interception.
During the 2014 season Hartzog plans to again lineup as safety, but he also has experience as a running back and on the punt team.
“I enjoy being the last line of defense and the challenge of having to make the play when it comes your way,” he said.
His first real taste of organized football came during his freshman year when he played for the Cobra B-team. The next year he moved up to the varsity and saw considerable action.
He says the transition to another school has been a smooth one.
“They took me in like I was family,” he said.” It feels like I’m at the same school so I can concentrate on establishing myself on the field so I can play at a higher level.”
He also brought two years of basketball experience to the Fort. He is a guard.
His goals include playing in college. He says when his athletic career has run its course, he wouldn’t mind being an athletic trainer.
