Parks Field rolls past Ladson in Minors opener

The 2014 South Carolina Dixie Youth Minors District 7 All-stars Tournament opened at the Hanahan Recreation Department Monday.

This summer, Parks Field American, Ladson, Bonneau, Pepperhill, Carolina League, Moncks Corner, Hanahan and Parks Circle are vying for the District 7 Minors (age 9-10) championship and the right to represent the district at the state tournament.

Games are scheduled for 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. daily through Thursday.

At 6 p.m. Friday, the finals for the double elimination tournament will begin.

Parks Field opened the tournament with a convincing 21-5 win over Ladson. Parks Field Shortstop Jalen West made an impact defensively and had a two-run home run during the game.

The Carolina League dropped its opener to Moncks Corner by a 12-2 margin. Host team Hanahan won handily over Park Circle and Pepperhill cruised by Bonneau.

The S.C. Dixie Youth Majors (11-12) District 7 All-stars Tournament kicked off Tuesday at Wescott Park after press time and is also expected to wrap up this weekend.

This summer the Dixie Majors (15-19) state tournament is being held in North Charleston July 12-16.

The South Carolina Little League Intermediate All-star Tournament is scheduled to begin July 10 at the Summerville Little League fields located at Boundary Street.
