Have you Met: Dana Coleman

  • Saturday, July 12, 2014

Dana Coleman is a three-sport athlete from a talented family.

The Fort Dorchester rising-junior was an offensive guard for the Patriot football team last season and earned varsity letters for wrestling and track and field. His best event this spring was the shot put and his top mark in a meet is 40-feet, 5-inches.

As a freshman, Coleman played for the Fort Dorchester B-team and JV football squads. He moved up to the varsity team last summer but had to battle for playing time due to the Patriots returning four starters on the line. He did see some action up front as well as on the kick return and punt teams. “I’m proud of how I was able to work my way up and get that first varsity letter,” he said.

Coleman, who is a cousin of Atlanta Falcons’ wide receiver Roddy White, hopes to make a big impact with the Patriots in the fall.

“Right now I’m just working to improve and get recognized so I can play more and get to that next level,” he said. “I would like to play in college so I know I need to work really had and always challenge myself.

“I think a lot of people underestimate me.”

When he was younger he played soccer. A versatile athlete, he moved around between the forward, striker and goalkeeper positions. High school soccer and track and field are both spring sports so after middle school he decided to focus on track.

Coleman hasn’t decided on a college major, but says he has an interest in engineering.
