On July 7 at the 140th Imperial Session (annual meeting) of Shriners International, representatives of the world-renowned fraternity elected Summerville resident Kenny Craven to the international Boards of Directors for Shriners International and their official philanthropy, Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Craven is the first Shriner from South Carolina in the organization’s 142-year history that will serve as part of the 13-member board that helps govern the Shriners fraternity and the Shriners’ pediatric health care system.

In 2024-2025, Craven is set to serve as Chief Executive Officer of Shriners International and the Chairman of the Board of Directors for Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Craven, a lifelong resident of Summerville, S.C., served as the “Potentate” (President) of the Omar Shriners, the Mount Pleasant, S.C. chapter of Shriners International, in 2012. Craven joined the Shriners fraternity in 1988 and has held several leadership roles with various organizations such as the Summerville Masonic Lodge, Charleston Restaurant Association, and the Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce.

In addition to becoming the highest ranking Shriner in the world, Craven will be able to bring the Shriners annual international convention to the city of his choice in the summer of 2025. The Shriners’ Imperial

Session will create an estimated $36 million economic impact on the host city as thousands of Shriners from across the world travel to the annual convention.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to represent nearly 300,000 Shriners from across the world in this position,” said Kenny Craven. “Having the chance to help lead an organization that has changed the lives of over one million families through expert pediatric care will be a truly rewarding experience,” Craven continued.
