Roger Lee/Journal Scene High school football teams open practice in less than two weeks.

If you want to play high school football, or your kid does, then mark Aug. 1 on your calendar.

All three Dorchester Two high schools will open football practice on the first day of August. Players will need a completed physical form and parental permission slip before they will be allowed to participate in any practice activities. Schools typically have those forms available to download on their websites.

Summerville High School will open varsity and JV practice at 8 a.m. at the practice field behind the SHS mini-gym. The Green Wave B-team will open practice at 8 a.m. Aug. 4 at the practice field located between the SHS tennis courts and Gregg Middle School.

Ashley Ridge High School has scheduled football tryouts for two different age groups. Tryouts for students who will be in grades 10-12 this upcoming school year will be held from 8-11 a.m. Aug. 1 and Aug. 2. Tryouts for rising ninth-graders will be held from 8-11 a.m. Aug. 4. Those interested should bring cleats, t-shirt, and shorts to tryouts.

Fort Dorchester High School will open practice for its varsity (grades 9-12) and JV (grades 8-10) programs at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 1 and practice for its B-team (grades 8-9) at 6 p.m. Aug. 1.

Each Patriot practice session will last approximately two hours. All Patriot practices will be held on the practice fields at FDHS. Players should wear t-shirt and shorts.

For further information on practices contact the athletic department for the appropriate school: SHS (873-4350), FDHS (760 -4455) and ARHS (695-4900).
