DD2 provides construction updates

At DD2’s board meeting July 14 Bob Folkman, capital improvements facilitator, reported the capital improvements project is 2.3 percent complete in actual costs and 5.1 percent complete in committed costs, as of May 31. He said the program schedule and budgets remain tight, but realistc.

The construction updates are as follows:

Sires ES (ES#1 @ Pine Trace)

• Contract executed with general contractor (EdCon)

• Value engineering review meeting held last Thursday…. current construction amount is within project budget

• Pine Trace Blvd. only est. cost $1,006,000

• Possible value engineering of $157,849 being explored

• Lease agreement (access road) presented to Budget & Control Board

• Letter issued by Corps of Engineers

• Now with OCRM and town for final land disturbance permits.

• Revised “PUD” approved by County, Final approval pending with Town

• Construction start date 2-4 weeks pending receipt of permits.

Alston Bailey ES

• Contract executed with general contractor (McKnight)

• Value engineering review meeting scheduled for Thursday; current est. contract amount is within project budget

• Mobilization by general contractor expected next two weeks

• CIP relocation planned for week of July 21st

• Water line relocation has commenced

• Turnpike property (Hwy 78) has closed, asbestos abatement/demolition in planning phase

• Final survey of all new property being planned

Sand Hill ES (ES#3)/ Middle School of the Arts

• Phase I - early site package has commenced

• Phase II – Bid Package process commences 7.28.14

• Contract type/bid process being explored for ES/MSOA bid package

Summerville ES

• Phase I parking lot in construction phase

• Phase II bids received, currently in contract phase

Toilet Renovations

• Four projects in construction phase


• Six projects in construction phase

• Addressing vandalism issues @ Beech Hill ES -- Bob Folkman told The Journal Scene that Beech Hill’s roofing contractor reported to the district multiple incidents where someone climbed onto the roof and spray painted some equipment. The district has examined security footage of the vandalism and is proceeding to locate those responsible.

• Currently in schematic design phase

Alston MS

• Currently in the design development phase

• Addressing coordination opportunities with Alston Bailey project as pertains to site work

• Addressing parking issues as pertains to county’s EMS station on Hwy. 78
