Jade Erickson

Jade Erickson is chasing the three-peat.

The Ashley Ridge High School rising senior has helped the Lady Swamp Fox soccer team to a pair of Region 8-AAAA Championships and is hoping to help the team earn its third straight title next spring.

“I’m really excited about being a senior,” Erickson said. “As far as goals, I want to win region again. To leave high school knowing we had won the region three straight years would be awesome.”

In addition to her two seasons with the Ashley Ridge varsity squad, Erickson spent a year with the school’s JV team and played three years of club ball with the Summerville Soccer Club. She normally plays the right midfield position.

When she was with the JV team she earned that squad’s Defensive Player of the Year and MVP awards.

The Ashley Ridge girls’ varsity lost five key players to graduation this spring. Two of them were midfielders so Erickson will likely play a major role next season.

“Our biggest challenge will be just coming together as a team,” she said. “We will have so many new players and we will all have to get to know each other. We will have to learn to work together on the field.”

Her teammates say she is already a vocal leader for the squad.

“I’m loud and always talking,” Erickson said. “I try to help lift everyone’s spirit. When we lose I’m the one who says ‘it’s not a big deal guys.’ Some of them get mad at me, but I think it’s important to stay positive.”

Erickson is an honor student who plans to pursue a nursing degree after high school. She doesn’t plan to play collegiate soccer.

“I’ve enjoyed the friends I’ve made through soccer so I will probably continue to play Rec soccer but I won’t play for the college,” she said.
