Four men face charges of attempted murder after a July 24 early morning home invasion burglary in Harleyville that resulted in a high speed chase and shots fired.
Michael Jamison, 35, of New York, Jesswill Simmons, 30, of Moncks Corner, Justin Simmons, 40, of Moncks Corner and Claunce Mazyck, 39, of Charleston are all charged with attempted murder, Dorchester County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Sam Richardson said Friday.
All were denied bond, Richardson said.
He also said more charges are pending.
A sheriff's office incident report released Wednesday said deputies responded to a call about a burglary in progress at a home at 124 Hilton Street in Harleyville.
The complainant told deputies he heard someone knocking at the door, and when he went to open it saw three unknown black males standing there. One pulled the door open and the complainant ran for a back bedroom. The complainant said he heard a gunshot as he ran.
The complainant said he tried to shut the bedroom door but one of the subjects yanked it open, threatened him with a gun, and demanded money. When the complainant said he didn't have any money, the subject pistol whipped him; the complainant was able to block a blow to his head with his hand, he said.
The complainant then gave the subject $200 and his cell phone and the subjects left the premises.
While this was occurring, the complainant's wife said she saw one of the subjects put a gun to her son's head and force him into the master bathroom.
The complainant said when the subjects left the house he went to the door to try to get a description of them and their vehicle. One of them fired a shot at him as they got into their vehicle, a white Denali SUV.
Meanwhile, deputies responding to the call observed the Denali traveling down U.S. 78 at a high rate of speed and gave chase. The subjects tried to turn onto S.C. 27 but missed it, ran through the parking lot of Carter's Gas Station, through the yard of a nearby residence, then entered S.C. 27 off Sampson Road before turning into some woods.
Someone in the Denali fired a shot at deputies before they fled the vehicle.
A search of the area by deputies, K9 units, and a Charleston County air unit ultimately turned up the three suspects, all of whom were taken into custody without further incident, according to the report.
The initial incident report indicated Jamison, Mazyck and Justin Simmons were arrested; it isn't clear how Jesswill Simmons also came to be arrested.
