Parks Minors/Majors compete at Dixie Youth state tournament

Provided The Parks Field American Majors All-stars won the 2014 South Carolina District 7 tournament last month to advance to the Majors state championship tournament.

A pair of Summerville all-star teams made a good run at the Dixie Youth Baseball state championships in Florence last week but neither was able to come home with a state title.

After claiming the District 7 Championship, the Parks Field American All-stars placed third in the South Carolina Dixie Youth Majors (age 11-12) Tournament. Parks Field won its first two games, but was eliminated by losses to the two teams that played in the championship. After defeating Parks Field, Dillon defeated Lake Marion in the title game.

“Our boys really represented Summerville well at the state tournament,” Parks Field Manager Brian Loving said. “They were in both the games we lost right up until the final inning.”

The Parks Field Minors (age 9-10) All-stars, also District 7 Champions, finished as the runner-up for their state tournament. The team won three straight games before running into trouble. Delmae won the tournament after bouncing back from a loss to Parks Field, which shared runner-up honors with Clinton.

Parks Field took its opponent into the ninth inning before suffering its second loss.

“We played well at the tournament but had one bad day,” Parks Field Manager Mike Hayes said. “We were the only team to go undefeated in the winner’s bracket and the only team to beat Delmae during the tournament.”
