Reevesville man dies in apparent drowning

A 55-year-old Reevesville man is dead, an apparent victim of drowning.

According to a release issued by Dorchester County Coroner Chris Nisbet, Mitchell Syphertt went fishing Aug. 3 with his cousin along a creek near Harley Road near Reevesville. The cousin decided to fish farther down the creek, leaving Syphert alone, and when he returned, he could not find Syphertt, according to the release.

The family reported Syphertt missing Aug. 5; Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office deputies found Syphert’s body later in the day in the waterway under a bridge on Harley Road, according to the release.

An autopsy is scheduled for 9 a.m. today according to the release.
