Pine Forest edges out Summerville for interclub win

  • Wednesday, August 13, 2014

Summerville teams battled it out for the top spots during the ninth match of the Charleston Area Men’s Interclub Golf Association season.

Legend Oaks hosted the match Aug. 4, but it was the club’s cross-town rivals that claimed the top spots. A total of 130 competitors from 13 different Charleston area clubs vied for individual prizes and team competition honors.

“Despite prior days’ rains and poor weather forecasted, the Legend Oaks course held up pretty well and the actual weather cooperated to get the match in,” association president Mike Phillips said. “The course was setup fairly for the damp conditions and the new Diamond Zoysia greens were in great shape. Thanks to the host team and staff for a very nice event with good food/drink, golf, and camaraderie.”

Pine Forest Country Club had a score of 35 to win the match and move from sixth place to second place in the overall standings. Summerville came in at 33 to claim runner-up honors and Shadowmoss placed third to remain at the top of the season standings.

Legend Oaks placed fourth with a score of 27 to move into third place in the season standings, within easy striking distance of the leaders.

Trailing for the match were Crowfield (25), Berkeley (23), Dunes West (17), RiverTowne (16), Charleston Municipal (11), Charleston National (10), Stono Ferry (9), Coosaw Creek (7) and Wescott Plantation (-12).

Top individual honors went to Felix Lattanzio from Legend Oaks with a plus 15 score, followed by Ray Boutin (Pine Forest) and Blake Raney (Shadowmoss), both with plus 12 scores.
