St. George’s Episcopal Church, 9110 Dorchester Rd., will bless children’s backpacks and teachers’ briefcases on Sunday, August 17, at the 9, 10:15 and 11:15 a.m. services.
Bring backpacks and briefcases to church that day to any one of the services listed and place them at the altar before the service begins.
All students, teachers, and the tools they carry with them into the new school year, will receive a special blessing.
Each backpack will receive a blessing card that may be attached for the whole school year as a reminder that God is with each student every day.
Church members are asked to donate a backpack to be blessed, as well, and for those who can, consider providing school supplies inside.
These will be given to students involved in St. George’s Backpack Buddies program, a ministry of the church that provides weekend food for more than 100 children from food insecure homes every week of the school year.
Backpacks and supplies should be dropped off at the church on or before August 17. All of the donated items also will be blessed at the services.
