Agents cleared in deadly shooting

  • Tuesday, August 19, 2014

Two SLED agents have been cleared in the fatal shooting last month of a man wanted for murder.

First Circuit Solicitor David Pascoe’s Aug. 18 letter says the two acted with “good faith belief” that Vamond Elmore, 37, “posed a significant risk of injury or death to themselves as well as other officers and citizens in the area.”

The letter says Elmore pointed a gun at one of the officers, and that he had previously told an acquaintance he would shoot the first officer who tried to arrest him.

Elmore was wanted in Connecticut for a May 15 homicide.

U.S. Marshals and other officers found him at a hotel in St. George on July 22. When he fled the hotel room, according to Pascoe, the officers identified themselves and attempted to arrest him but were forced to shoot to protect themselves.

Elmore was transported to MUSC, where he later died.
