Larry Coomer walked down his driveway on South Main Street one morning a few weeks ago and came across a mystery.
A small, handmade book had appeared there.
Had someone lost it? Or had someone tossed it from a passing car in anger?
The book was called “Our Song,” and as Coomer flipped through it, he started to imagine what had led to its creation.
The book seemed to tell the story of a couple who’d hit a rough patch, with one partner pleading to keep fighting for the relationship.
One odd point about the book stood out – it was dated in the future.
On the cover was the date 8-31-14.
Was there something significant about that date, he wondered?
Coomer at first left the book atop his mailbox in hopes someone would return to claim it.
But that hasn’t happened, so he brought the book in to the Journal Scene, thinking perhaps the book’s creator, or recipient, would see this story and come claim it. The book is at the Journal Scene office. Coomer said he doesn’t need to know the details of what led to the book – he’d just like to know whether it gets claimed.
So if you’re out there and wishing you had the book again – it’s here waiting for you.
