Donald D. Clark

Chaplain Donald D. Clark, a former resident of Summerville, died August 17, 2014 in Silver Spring, MD at Riderwood Village at the age of 88. He retired from the US Army with the rank of Colonel having served 26 years and was an ordained minister in the Church of God (Anderson, IN) denomination.

After retiring, he and his wife Legertha (Lee) moved to Summerville where they were very active at Brownsville Community Church of God and Meals on Wheels. Ch. Clark served as Associate Pastor of Brownsville Community Church of God, on the Human Rights Committee of the Coastal Center and was an instructor for the annual Ministers Clinic of the South Carolina State Presbytery of the Church of God. He volunteered for many years as a greeter at the Summerville Medical Center. After living 25 years in Summerville, they relocated to Maryland in 2007 to be closer to family. They left many friends but took beloved memories with them.

Ch. Clark lived a life of service to God, family, and country. He leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Legertha, and 3 daughters, Cynthia Clark Walker (Johnnie), Sheryl Clark Hankerson, and Tami Hubbard (Jerry). His survivors also include 3 grandchildren, Sara and Avery Hubbard, and Donald Spencer Hankerson and 4 siblings. He is preceded in death by his parents and 5 siblings.

The funeral service will be held on August 23, 2014 at Riderwood Community Chapel in Silver Spring, MD. The burial will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Online condolences may be posted at www.borgwardtfuneralhome.com.
