A Summerville mans cautious plans for his lottery winnings have apparently irked his wife, according to the S.C. Education Lottery.

The man bought a Mega Millions ticket worth $1 million at the Publix on State Road.

Lottery officials announced the ticket was a winner Aug. 20, but the man took some time to do some financial planning before claiming his winnings, according to the lottery.

His plan -- pay bills, save and invest.

I was raised to save money and buy the things you need, he said.

But his wife feels strongly that they should have some fun with their winnings, according to the lottery.

I wasnt planning on buying anything, the winner said.

Monday, he cashed in the ticket.

He told lottery officials hes waited his whole life for this moment and is prepared.

Im not going to change the way I live, though my wife wants to, he said.

The Publix that sold the ticket received a commission of $10,000 for selling the claimed ticket.

The odds of winning $1 million are 1 in 18,492,204.
