The Pinewood football team will carry some momentum into its rivalry game with Northwood Academy.

The Panthers won their season opener Aug. 19 handily and had a good showing at the Sertoma Classic held at The Citadel the end of last week.

After defeating First Baptist 46-0 in its opener, Pinewood faced a bigger challenge in its one-quarter scrimmage with North Charleston Friday.

However, the Panthers handled the Class AA public school team well and earned a 20-6 victory in the scrimmage.

Pinewood quarterback Lewis Vaughan threw a pair of touchdown passes and rushed for a score.

One of the touchdown passes went to Tatum Rowland and the other went to Ryan Huiet, who also picked off a pass during the scrimmage. It was his fourth pick of the week as he made three against First Baptist.

Vaughan received the Roddy White Most Valuable Player Award for the second night of Sertoma.

However, Northwood will also carry some momentum into this week’s game, which is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Pinewood.

The Chargers earned a 29-16 victory over Military Magnet in a two-quarter scrimmage that was part of the 44th annual Sertoma Classic.

Northwood running back Trevor McNeil scored two touchdowns and Trey Stuckey added a rushing TD.

Chargers’ quarterback Will Lloyd connected with DJ Dwight on a 42-yard scoring pass.
