A Summerville man was arrested on his 19th birthday for attempted murder, after police say he stabbed another man in the stomach.

Matthew Patrick, 19, of 328 Winter Drive, was taken into custody in the Summervillage Mobile Home Park.

Police caught up with the victim, a 22-year-old man, at Summerville Medical Center, where he told them he was leaving a friend’s home in the mobile home park around 3:30 a.m. when a shirtless white male approached him and started making obscene remarks about his weight.

The two men exchanged words, then the shirtless man swung his fist at the victim, then stabbed him, the victim told police.

The friend corroborated the story, saying the shirtless man approached the victim in a “very aggressive manner while cursing and attempting to fight,” according to a Summerville Police incident report.

A neighbor witnessed part of the incident and identified the shirtless man as Patrick, according to the report. She had had a previous run-in with Patrick and had a trespass notice against him, the report said.

Police then found Patrick at home, elsewhere in the mobile home park, and described him as “heavily intoxicated.”

His jean shorts were on the bedroom floor covered in blood, according to the incident report.

Patrick was booked on an attempted murder charge and transported to the Dorchester County Detention Center.
