SCORE to aid veteran start-up

According to data from the U.S. Census Bureau, nearly one in 10 small businesses nationwide are veteran-owned.

The local chapter of SCORE will give a $1,000 grant from its annual golf tournament proceeds to assist a qualified veteran in starting a business. The tournament will be held Monday, Oct. 13 at Charleston National.

Interested players and sponsors are invited to sign-up at www. score285.org.

Additionally, SCORE will hold a free all-day workshop on Friday, Oct. 31, for veterans who are considering starting orgrowing their business.

SCORE is a national, volunteer non-profit organization of business professionals that provides free and confidential counseling and mentoring to small and start-up businesses.

Coastal SCORE, the Charleston area chapter, has been helping small businesses start and succeed for more than 40 years.
