Steven Duncan threw for 268 yards and completed touchdown passes to three receivers to lead Ashley Ridge to a 59-21 win Friday at James Island.
Duncan connected with Matt Linton for a 15-yard TD pass in the first quarter and with Dashaun Santiago in the second quarter on a 60-yard TD pass to help the Swamp Foxes to a 28-14 halftime lead. In the third quarter, Duncan then threw to Mitch Nixon for a 12-yard TD pass.
Senior Chandler Avenel also connected with Hakeem Ellington on a 16-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter.
The Swamp Fox running backs also had a busy night.
The big turning point of the game came at the end of the first half. James Island intercepted a Duncan pass and returned the ball near midfield but then Linton hit the returner and jarred the ball loose. Running back Tyler Garland scooped it up and dashed 47 yards into the end zone for the 28-14 Swamp Fox lead with Matt Gabelís fourth of eight successful PAT kicks on the night.
Chris Jones rushed for a 6-yard touchdown earlier in the second quarter. Cyrus Clark scored on a 43-yard run with four minutes remaining in the game to close out the scoring.
Ashley Ridgeís other score came midway through the third quarter when defensive back Jamal King-Smalls picked off a Trojansí pass and returned it 52 yards into the end zone.
QB Buss Hamilton scored two of James Islandís three scores on runs of 1 and 2 yards. The Trojansí other TD came on an 8-yard run by Chad Hardin.
Duncan completed 12 of 19 pass attempts on the night. He only threw the one interception. Avenel completed 3 of 3 attempts for 25 yards with no interceptions.
Linton led all receivers with five catches for 121 yards. Santiago had two catches for 79 yards and both CT Frederick and Ellington had three catches each.
James Islandís Hamilton led all rushers, carrying 34 times for 165 yards.
Clark rushed for 108 yards and Garland finished with 86 yards on the ground.
Linebacker Brandon Brown led the Swamp Fox defense with 16 primary tackles and 2.5 assists. Ashley Ridge had three sacks and forced the two turnovers.
Ashley Ridge rolled off 468 yards of offense while limiting James Island to 358 yards.
This Friday Ashley Ridge hosts Wando at 7:30 p.m.
