Swamp Foxes too much for Wildcats

  • Thursday, September 4, 2014

Roger Lee/Journal Scene Sabrina Spencer had a big night for the Swamp Foxes Tuesday.

The Ashley Ridge volleyball team earned a win Tuesday over the team that knocked the Swamp Foxes out of the playoffs last season.

Playing at home, Ashley Ridge defeated West Ashley 25-12, 23-25, 25-18, 25-21.

“Overall, I was happy with the outcome,” Swamp Fox coach Chi-Chi Hurley said. “We need to work on our passes so we do not wear out our setter. In the first game and the third, we played like I expect us to play, with good passes, sets and hits. In the second game we beat ourselves by missing serves and scoring opportunities. The fourth game we played well, but started to back off to soon.”

Every time Ashley Ridge would gain some momentum in the final game, West Ashley would rally. The Wildcats tied the game at 14 and stayed close until the Swamp Foxes reached 20.

Senior Katie Jordan had nine kills in the game and senior Caitlyn Fecko had more than 15 digs.

“Katie Jordan had an awesome hitting game for us,” Hurley said. “Sabrina Spencer played hard and got to most all the balls. Her quick tips and dumps saved us in the last game. She is great at reading the defense.”

On Wednesday, Ashley Ridge improved to 4-0 on the season with a 22-25, 25-19, 25-8, 23-25, 15-9 victory at Hanahan. The Swamp Foxes will be on the road until Sept. 13, when they host the Swamp Fox Invitational.
