The American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) has recognized DesignWorks, LC, a Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning firm in Charleston, and The Ponds, a 1,950-acre master-planned community set in Summerville, with an Award of Merit in the category of Analysis and Planning.

DesignWorks had been retained by Greenwood Communities and Resorts, developer of The Ponds, to create memorable landscapes throughout the property while remaining sensitive to the environment.

The results are seen in the landscaped entrance to the property featuring The Ponds Tower, manicured herb and floral gardens surrounding the 19th century restored farmhouse and development of the first phase of a 60-plus-mile sidewalk and trail system leading to the 1,100-acre nature preserve.

The ASLA Awards recognize the wide variety of professional activities that lead to, guide, or evaluate landscape architectural design.  The main criteria for judging include quality of design, functionality, relationship to context, environmental responsibility, impact on environmental decision-making, and overall relevance to landscape architecture, the public and the environment.
