Lift truck distributor Barloworld Handling donated a fully-refurbished,

5,000-lb. electric Hyster forklift to The Lowcountry Food Bank during an Open House at Barloworld’s new branch location in Summerville on Thursday, April 8, 2010. Barloworld customers and the public attended a brief presentation ceremony, followed by Southern-style barbecue lunch. Alwyn Smith, Barloworld’s president, and George Buell, Director of Distribution of The Lowcountry Food Bank, were on hand to greet visitors and made brief remarks at the dedication ceremony.

The donation is in celebration of Barloworld’s growth into a larger full-service facility from its previous location in North Charleston. The new facility includes an expanded parts counter, larger service bays equipped with modern cranes and a sizeable space dedicated to service tech and customer training.

“This larger facility allows us to enhance our services and offerings in the greater Charleston area,” said Smith. “We are excited to give back to the community that has facilitated our growth over the years by providing a much-needed piece of electric equipment to the bank.”

“The Lowcountry is extremely grateful to Barloworld Handling for its generous commitment to helping thousands of families impacted by food insecurity,” said Lowcountry Food Bank Executive Director, D. Jermaine Husser. “This forklift will be a vital component of our daily operation as we work to distribute over 14 million

pounds of food to more than 190,000 facilities, children and elderly each year.”
