Birdsong awarded Avon Foundation for Women scholarship

The Avon Foundation for Women has awarded

Miriam Birdsong from Summerville, SC with a 2010 Avon Representative Scholarship. Birdsong will be attending Strayer University during the 2010-11 academic year. The scholarship is designed to assist independent Avon Sales Representatives who are enrolled (or who plan to enroll) in an undergraduate or graduate course of study leading to a degree in a field that allows them to advance their careers.

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community service activities, honors, work experience, statement of goals and aspirations, unusual personal or family circumstances, and an outside appraisal.

Academic and non-academic criteria are evaluated equally. Financial need is

not considered.

Carol Kurzig, president of the Avon Foundation for Women, said: “The Avon Foundation for Women understands it is important for all Avon Sales Representatives to have the opportunity to continue their education to help pave the way to their future economic advancement. We are so pleased to be able to award Miriam Birdsong with this scholarship to further her education.”

The Avon Foundation annually awards up to 150 scholarship awards of either $1,500 or $2,500 to independent Avon Sales Representatives. Students attending an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school on a part-time (less than 12 credits/term) basis receive the $1,500 awards. Students attending an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school on a full-time (12 or more credits/term) basis receive $2,500 awards. Awards are not renewable; however, students may reapply to the program each year. A student may receive a maximum total of four (4) awards. This year’s awards are intended for use in the 2010-2011 academic school year.
