Dorchester County School District 2 Superintendent Joseph Pye takes a moment to thank the many community business partners who have stepped in to help schools in the district in a variety of ways during a reception held Oct. 20 in the Summerville High School cafeteria.

Dorchester County School District 2 took a couple of hours to say thank you to its business partners in the community last Thursday.

The event, held Oct. 20 in Summerville High School’s cafeteria, was reception/drop in for area business partners of the school district. Light hors d’eourves and entertainment from the Alston Middle School guitar orchestra highlighted the event.

The idea, said District Superintendent Joseph Pye, was to take a moment to honor and thank the more than 550 business partners from 360 area businesses who take the time to volunteer time and provide resources to District 2 schools. The businesses range from major corporations like Alcoa and Mead Westvaco to small businesses throughout the community. All of them find unique and valuable ways to help, Pye said.

No matter what they do or how they choose to do it, their commitment is greatly appreciated, Pye said.

“We proudly display your names and logos on our signs, at our stadiums, in our schools,” Pye said. “We are proud and grateful that we have been able to build such successful and positive relationships. We need our business partners – we really appreciate all of you.”

More important, the partnerships are another example of how the community cares and works together for the benefit of the children, Pye said.

Most of all, he said, the district wants to work hard to ensure the partnerships are mutually beneficial. In fact, that mutually beneficial relationship is a major reason why the business partnerships have been so successful, he said.

“We’ve got a great community here that really cares and works together – we all make it work,” Pye said. “But we don’t want it to be a one-way street. We want to know what we can do for you as well.”
