Local boy reaches for stardom

After local eleven-year-old Chris Ramirez took karate classes, played baseball, and acted in church and school plays, he told his mother he really wanted to be an actor. Chris’s mother, Sharon Ramirez signed him up for the Kids Club class at Millie Lewis Talent and Modeling Agency in North Charleston.

“The Kids Club classes really helped to build his confidence, learn how to walk the runway, and prepared him for interviewing,” Sharon said.

“Later, Millie Lewis agency represented him at the National Actors, Models & Talent Convention, where agents from all over the country were scouting talent. Just days after the convention, Ramirez was in New York interviewing with four different agencies who wanted to represent him.”

Since then, Chris has become an overnight sensation in New York. While he was in New York last week, he had five auditions for Nickelodeon, Disney and three feature films. “We decided to let the New York agency, Don Buchwald & Associates represent our son since they have offices in New York and Los Angeles. They told us that because Chris looks and is Hispanic, he can get twice as many auditions.” Chris’s mother Sharon said.

“This experience has helped Chris to be more independent. They (the casting directors) don’t want to hear from the parents, so he had to grow up fast to be able to sell himself to the directors. It has been a great asset for him”, concluded Sharon.

For now, Sharon says it is a waiting game to find out what will be the next step in Chris’s new career, but he will continue going to school and taking drama classes at Pinewood Preparatory School.

“Chris is our next superstar. There are so many opportunities for Hispanic children and adults. It’s really where everything is going.”

Chris will be on hand for the Millie Lewis Open House event on Monday, Aug. 30, at 6 p.m.,” Millie Lewis Agency Director and CEO, Suzanne M. Green, said.
