Vintage Swag gives back

Giving is something the RN’s at Summerville hospital are accustomed to doing, and that giving and caring spirit follows them as they find items to restore, rejuvenate and up-cycle at the Vintage Swag, a Summerville vintage store located on Cedar Street in downtown Summerville.

In addition to Jill Jones, RN and Robin Lambdin, RN, the vendors at the Swag include Monnie Johnson, a Pharmacist (Pharm.D) who sells Polish Pottery, Joan Davis, patient support technician who creates and sells decorative plates, and Debbie Grogen, RN, an artist who sells her original Lowcountry art at the Swag.

Jill Jones, is the owner and operator of the Vintage Swag and she has an eye for what you’re looking for, and you’ll find it somewhere in the four room cottage. She said, “Folks today enjoy vintage items, it gives us a sense of “place.” There’s a movement to mix antique, vintage, and “new” to create an eclectic and personal look for the home and garden. The Vintage Swag began out of an interest to keep vintage items out of the landfills.”

The main room features hand crafted, fine china tea cups, cut so cleanly in half, so smoothly, you’d think an industrial grade laser was used. They make the most unusual and attractive bird feeders.

Robin Lambdin, RN, has a diverse collection at the Swag that appeals to people looking for anything from an antique shoeshine box to a Bakers Rack for their kitchen.

Robin’s practical approach and caring nature has made her a naturally good nurse, and those skills translate well for her part-time passion, “treasure hunting”. Robin said, “It isn’t for everyone, especially my husband,” she says with a chuckle.  “He doesn’t have the patience it takes to sort through a pile of “stuff” to find that one gem that will go nicely in someone’s living room.” She looks for “good deals” and passes the savings along to her customers.

“Come on out to the ‘Swag and find what you didn’t know you were looking for, it’s a wonderful little cottage where you can get lost for twenty minutes or so, just looking around,” she said.

The Vintage Swag gives a sense of the love and care that went into the selection of each item in the store.

Jill’s husband, Bobby Jones, a former construction superintendent, is a master wrought iron worker, and he has created some of the more creative and interesting pieces at the ‘Swag; from bottle trees to ornate, wrought iron wall and garden art.

Robin has an online store where you can see almost all of her best “pickins.”  It’s on the ‘net at www.ABrightIdeaCompany.com.

Jones and Lambdin believe that up-cycling their “finds” was a means to use them in a different and fun way. They both have experience with the craft show circuit and they have had booths in local shops.

As Jones started adding items “left in their swagalicious state,” she decided to take it to the next level by opening The Vintage Swag.

“The medical profession is a very left brained career, our passion for vintage gives our creative side a chance to shine. Come to the Vintage Swag, you’ll find what you’re looking for or something that you didn’t know you wanted.” she said.
